Lorraine has also been informed that she took fourth prize in The South African Short Story Publication, Telling Tales. Her efforts not only had her winning R500 but she receives a share of the royalties on the sale of the book! I told you there was no stopping this gal!
Friday September the 8th was a real red-letter day when Judy’s Cape Town student, Lorraine Nevin, took second place in the BTA/Anglo Platinum Short Story Competition 2006. No mean feat considering the fact that there were 1600 entries received nationwide. Judy joined Lorraine at the Killarney Country Club, in Johannesburg to share in her big moment; as well as seeing her being presented with a cheque of R15 000 for her efforts.
The evening was a runaway success with Beulah Thumbadoo and Associates combining with Anglo Platinum to present a top-class dinner and screen presentation. Guests such as Dr. Pallo Jordan, the Minister of Arts and Culture, and Zane Meas, of Sewende Laan fame, as the MC, attended the function.
Judy would like to wish Lorraine all the best in her future writing career. Having only just finished the course, Lorraine is an inspiration to all aspirant writers out there who realise that once their own creativity is combined with the right guidance and a smidgeon of dedication they can do it …
Another one of her short stories has been accepted for publication elsewhere, as well. Is there no stopping this woman?
Well done, Lorraine! |
